The first step in an efficient waste management process for any business is how they let their waste be collected and handled. It is true our environmentally-friendly and cost-effective iD-R systems process food waste and put back the control in your hands, but all of that would be futile (and expensive) if you do not get your basics right.
When it comes to refuse collection and waste management, having the right bin lifter can make all the difference to your efforts. There are three reasons behind that, namely:
- They reduce the manual effort your workers need to put in and thus protect them from potential lifting related injuries and exposure to hazardous materials.
- They can improve your operational efficiency.
- They improve your business reputation, thus bringing in more customers for you.
If your business is thinking of changing its old ways of waste management and switching to bin lifters which are clearly efficient, cost-effective and safer, here is how to select the right bin lifter to handle your waste with:
1. Determine the size and weight of your wheelie bins
There are several models available with different capacities, such as 120, 240, 360, 660, 1100 litres for regular use and larger capacities for factory use. These can weigh anywhere between 30 kg and 250 kg.
A big part of the choice of bin lifter depends on the industry you work in. For a recycling plant or a school cafeteria, small or medium-sized lifters will do the trick.
However, if you are running a food production plant or a factory that generates a lot of scrap metal, you might want a hydraulic-powered bin lifter to make things easier with heavy loads.
Some models even come with custom cradles so that you can lift bulkier objects, like oil drums or DOLAVs. Check out our MegaDumper® and its ultra-reliable bin-tipping mechanism. It has an impressive capacity of 600kg.
2. Figure out how many times a day you will need to tip
Many bin lifters come with assisted bin-lifting facilities that can lift a specific weight range safely but will also entail some manual effort. These are thus recommended for use between two and ten times a day per model.
If you need to tip more often, you can opt for hydraulic-powered bin lifters that can lift weight more frequently without the risk of straining or malfunctioning. What if we told there is a bin tipper with a 15-second tipping cycle? Yes, that is right.
Our Multi-Tip® bin lifter comes with a 150-kg lifting capacity and takes pride in its open design that makes cleaning and maintenance tasks smooth and convenient.
3. Determine the height of the dumpster or skip bin
Based on how high the dumpster or skip bin is, you will need to choose an appropriately sized bin lifter. The range of lifters available can accommodate from 1500-millimetre to 2100-millimetre skip bins or dumpsters.
You will love our heavy-duty mobile bin lifter, Dumpmaster®, which is famous for safely emptying any bin at extended heights using the electro-hydraulic mechanism.
Are you worried your waste would topple over during the collection process? Don’t be – the Dumpmaster® comes with a standard full-guarding and door interlock systems.
4. Determine the work and space requirements of your bin lifter
Bin lifters come in two types – full-swing and lift-and-tilt. As the name indicates, a full-swing bin lifter has a full swinging path, which makes it ideal for a controlled work environment where pedestrian access is restricted.
It might also need enhanced height clearance to operate optimally, and is thus not recommended for areas with low ceilings like basements or underground car parks.
Full-swing lifters are particularly recommended for industries that work with flammable products. On the other hand, lift-and-tilt bin lifters enclose their lifting motion within the footprint of the lifter. They are thus ideal for use in commercial, retail or school areas where pedestrian access cannot be controlled.
